He plans to marry Elena Zhukova, 67, a Russian-born retired scientist he met last year. It’s the second time Murdoch has been engaged in a year. Last March, the media titan announced plans to marry Ann Lesley Smith, a former dental hygienist and conservative radio host. Murdoch and Zhukova reportedly started dating in the summer and plan to marry at Moraga Bel Air, Murdoch’s luxury vineyard and estate in California. CNN —Rupert Murdoch is set to be deposed on Tuesday in voting technology company Smartmatic’s mammoth $2.7 billion election defamation lawsuit against Fox News, a person familiar with the matter told CNN. Murdoch founded Fox News and served as executive chairman of Fox Corporation, Fox News’ parent company, until earlier this month, when the 92-year-old media baron transitioned to chairman emeritus, crowning his son Lachlan as king of his media empire. A spokesperson for Fox Corporation declined to comment, though the company has consistently said it plans to vigorously fight the lawsuit. Smartmatic filed its lawsuit against Fox Corporation in 2021 after it was swept up in baseless conspiracy theories about the 2020 election. In April, Fox Corporation reached a historic $787 million settlement in a similar election lies case filed by another voting technology company, Dominion Voting Systems.

The rapid succession of guilty pleas not only marks a big blow to Trump, but also to the right-wing media apparatus that championed and disseminated his election lies to the masses. In the aftermath of the 2020 election, both Ellis and Powell toured across MAGA Media, becoming heroes to Trump’s fans as they sowed doubt about the legitimacy of the election. Fox News, which repeatedly hosted Ellis in the wake of the 2020 election, suddenly became disinterested in the former Trump lawyer. The result is that a good portion of the channel’s audience, made up of legions of viewers who willfully seclude themselves in right-wing media safe spaces, will likely miss the consequential news.
